Supprelin LA is a synthetic gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH agonist) used as a palliative treatment for advanced prostate cancer in men. It works by decreasing the production of male hormones (testosterone) in the body, which in turn slows the growth of prostate tumor cells.

Mechanism of Action
Supprelin LA works by decreasing the production of male hormones (testosterone) in the body, which in turn slows the growth of prostate cancer cells. GnRH is a peptide hormone secreted by the hypothalamus. It stimulates the production of gonadotropins (LH and FSH), which are responsible for the production of the male sex hormones, testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), respectively. When Supprelin LA is given, it binds to the GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, effectively halting the production of gonadotropins and the sex hormones.
How long does it take to work?
Supprelin LA typically begins to work within 48 to 72 hours. It stops the production of testosterone within 7 days and the levels fall to castrate levels. This can take up to 12 weeks for the full effects to be observed.

Supprelin LA is rapidly and almost completely absorbed upon subcutaneous administration. The bioavailability is 100%.
Route of Elimination
Supprelin LA is metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly as metabolites through the kidneys.
Dosage

Side Effect
