Uses For
Cinitapride is used to treat symptoms of slow movement of food through the stomach (gastroparesis) or too little acid in the stomach (hypochlorhydria), such as nausea, vomiting or feeling of fullness after eating only a small amount of food. It is also used to treat non-specific functional dyspepsia, a condition which is characterized by symptoms such as heartburn, abdominal fullness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain or burning sensation.
Mechanism of Action
Cinitapride is a serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) 4 receptor agonist that stimulates gastrointestinal motility by increasing the release of acetylcholine in the enteric nervous system. It also increases the release of gastrin and motilin, resulting in an increase of gastric acid secretion.
